Is 40C the Tipping Point?

The temperature in the UK is forecast to hit 40C or more on Monday and a red warning for extreme heat is in place for large parts of the country. Without doubt the cause of this extreme weather is global warming caused by the burning of fossil fuels.

As we try and remain cool, we need to turn our attention to possible solutions and the need to greatly reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. We’ve known about the problem of global warming for decades but this is the first time that temperatures have risen so high.

Solutions

The positive news is that, for the most part, the solutions are available to us although it requires governments, businesses and individuals to work together. A greener society can create jobs, strengthen the economy and improve all our lives as well as the environment. To me this represents a huge investment opportunity.

Legacy

One way we can play our part is to have an awareness of where our money is invested and what impact this is having on climate change. We may see record temperatures this week but will this become the new normal for future generations? What legacy will our investment decisions today have on our children and grandchildren in the future?
