This is a quote from one of the best books written in recent years on the subject of longevity and definitely worth a read.

The findings from the 2010 report highlight the benefits that those with a financial plan enjoy over those who do not have a financial plan. Even when controlling for age and income, those who had a financial plan were more likely to associate retirement with positive ideas such as freedom, happiness and opportunity rather than negative ones such as hardship, boredom and fear.
