This is a quote from one of the best books written in recent years on the subject of longevity and definitely worth a read.

HSBC produce an annual ‘Future of Retirement’ report which looks at different issues affecting people’s attitudes and experiences of retirement.

The findings from the 2010 report highlight the benefits that those with a financial plan enjoy over those who do not have a financial plan. Even when controlling for age and income, those who had a financial plan were more likely to associate retirement with positive ideas such as freedom, happiness and opportunity rather than negative ones such as hardship, boredom and fear. [1]
